A MASTERPIECE OF CONTEMPORARY TAILORING: SUPER 120S BY REID AND TAYLOR
This fabric represents the excellence of high-end modern spinning, combining technological lightness with the most refined aesthetic tradition. The “REID & TAYLOR
SUPER 120S” designation celebrates the aristocracy of high-twist worsted yarn, designed for the contemporary gentleman who demands a dynamic, lightweight yet impeccably elegant suit.
TECHNICAL PROFILE
Brand / Spinning: REID & TAYLOR
Yarn Quality: Super 120s (High-Twist Worsted Virgin Wool)
Weight: 240 grams per linear meter. A combed fabric with a contemporary weight, soft, snappy, and breathable. It’s the perfect weight for transitional seasons.
Tailoring Performance: The nature of the combed yarn provides a soft, velvety hand, yet with excellent elastic memory. It’s a fabric that’s stable under the tailor’s scissors, following the body’s lines without deforming, ensuring a fluid fit for trousers and a jacket that maintains its structure all day long.
DESIGN AND TEXTURE: THE CHROMATIC DEPTH OF MIDNIGHT BLUE
The visual weave of this fabric is an exercise in geometric and chromatic style of rare finesse, where the details are revealed only at close range:
The Ground: A dark blue, classic, institutional, and nocturnal. A shade that evokes the formal elegance of London clubs, lustrous yet rigorous.
The Weft: A sophisticated worsted flannel characterized by an imperceptible, dyed-on-dye herringbone pattern. This microscopic geometric pattern gives the fabric movement, capturing the light in a three-dimensional way.
The Stripes: The rigor of the classic blue pinstripe is broken up and enhanced by an imperceptible burgundy stripe, expertly set right in the middle of the herringbone design. This warm/cool color combination (light blue and burgundy) breaks the monotony of traditional pinstripes, elevating the visual value of the entire fabric.
GARMENT TIPS FROM ANTONIETTA TESSUTI:
Ideal fabric for making two-piece men’s suits. Sold per piece.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE
Super 120s yarns are precious and require careful care to preserve the fiber’s brilliance:
Washing: Delicate dry cleaning only at specialized cleaners. Do not wet clean.
Ironing: Iron at low temperatures. It is essential to place a damp cotton cloth between the wool and the iron to protect the combed flannel finish and avoid unsightly shine on the seams.
Yarn Resting: After use, we recommend hanging the garment on a shaped wooden hanger for at least 24 hours. The high twist of Super 120s allows the fibers to stretch naturally, eliminating creases.
REID & TAYLOR: THE LEGEND OF SCOTTISH WEAVING
Founded in 1837 by Alexander Reid and Joseph Taylor in Langholm, on the banks of the River Esk in Scotland, the mill represented global excellence in warm, robust, and structured winter fabrics for over 180 years.
Famous for inventing the legendary Twist yarns, Reid & Taylor has dressed the greatest gentlemen in history, the tailors of Savile Row, and even Sean Connery as James Bond. Using the purest Scottish waters to wash the wool, the mill created armored and indestructible fabrics, beloved by the greatest luxury houses (like Scabal) for their sculptural aplomb.
Today, the historic Scottish mill has ceased production, transforming every surviving cut into an extremely rare archival collector’s item, destined for true connoisseurs of haute couture.
**FLAW: IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FABRIC, AT 1.50 METRES, THERE IS A VERY SMALL HOLE THAT CAN BE EASILY REMOVED FROM THE PATTERN, WITHOUT AFFECTING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GARMENT.
